The North Cardinal Direction in Cherokee tradition, represents wisdom learned through actual life lessons, it is where we sit after we've gone the full circle around.  The wisdom we acquire, if representative of North, is clean and clear like the ice melting - it has no residue, it is ready to share with the younger generations.  We do not have to perfect.  This little necklace is about trying to keep our lessons free of what no longer serves us or the next generation.
